Our Story
La Canela, which translates to ‘Cinnamon’, was opened in winter of 2007
as a sister restaurant to La Flor de la Canela.
As a little girl, the owner loved playing “kitchen” in her native country- Peru. Her love for food and cooking, much of which was taught by her mother, transpired into adulthood until the moment she was able to open her first restaurant in Gaithersburg, Maryland.
Our first restaurant, La Flor de La Canela, opened its doors in 1997. Having been one of the first Peruvian restaurants in the area, our loyal customers have continued to follow us to our new location.
The food we offered was a combination of authentic Peruvian cuisine and old family recipes. We strived to provide delicious food that was made to order and made from scratch; expectations that we held for both La Canela and Carbon: Peruvian Chicken and Grille.
La Canela opened its doors in late 2007, with the intention of building a restaurant to share our cuisine and culture with a broader audience.
Being family owned and operated: we know how important family meals are. We wish to serve food that bring families closer and makes people happy in an environment of colonial Peru.
We are pleased to have been in this business for over twenty years and wish to thank our loyal customers. For our new customers, we wish to offer a small taste of our beloved Peru and we hope to be an accurate representation of our country.
